What goes in the blue bin in Bury?

By WastePro · Published 9 October 2026

WastePro Bury blue-bin guide showing plastic pots, tubs and trays; empty and rinse them.

The quick answer

Bury’s blue bin accepts plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays, including black plastic trays. It also takes glass bottles and jars, food tins, drinks cans, empty aerosols and clean foil.

Do yoghurt pots and takeaway tubs go in?

Yes. Empty and rinse accepted containers before recycling. Remove plastic film; it does not belong in the blue bin. Plastic toys, plant pots, hangers and storage crates are not accepted in this bin.

Does a recycling symbol mean it can go in?

No. A plastic identification code does not establish whether an item is accepted locally. Use Bury Council’s item list rather than guessing from the packaging symbol.

What about batteries?

Keep batteries and mobile phones out of household bins. Use an appropriate recycling point instead; see our battery guide.
